Choosing Music for your Wedding

You’ve found your perfect partner, you’ve set the date and you’ve found the venue - but have you thought about music to make your special day even more memorable?

Music will play an important part of your special day, from music performed before the wedding ceremony to the entertainment at the reception – it sets the mood and says something about you as a couple.

I’m sure that you want the whole day to go smoothly, and this means getting people involved who know what they’re doing.

Occasion Occcasion is run by a team of professional musicians with many years of experience managing music events. The musicians we use play jazz, classical, pop, and world music. They are all professional and highly talented; if they weren’t then they wouldn’t be working for us!

We’ve put together a few tips and music suggestions to help you choose the music which is right for you for your ceremony:

Music for your Church Ceremony

  • Talk to the Minister early on to find out what music the church can offer - many churches are happy for you to bring your own musicians with prior approval
  • If using the church’s organist, he/she will usually provide a list of the pieces they play
  • If you ask another organist to play you will need to get approval from the church and may need to pay the regular organist’s fee
  • Every organ is unique and music should be chosen appropriate to the size and condition of the one in your church
  • Church weddings usually contain 2 or 3 hymns - these should be well known. Having a good choir or group of singers will help lead the singing

These are just a few tips and suggestions to help get you started. You might also want to consider using the same musicians for your reception to help keep your costs down. Whatever ideas you have, Occasion Occasion is here to help you.
